COMPUTER, SKILLS FOR TODAY'S JOB MARKET (This class meets twice each week): Need quick and intense training of the most widely used computer programs in the local job market? Learn the basics of these Office 2007 programs: Word, Excel, Outlook, and Powerpoint. Hands-on practice in these important programs will give you the foundation you need to be prepared for most of today's jobs in the increasingly competitive job market. Also covered are some Windows file management skills. Students must have some experience with a Windows-based computer, file saving, some typing and mouse skills.

COMPUTER TROUBLESHOOTING ON BASIC PC's: What to do when you can't find a file, can't open an attachment, when the screen freezes, when the sound doesn't work, printing is too slow or poor quality, text is too small or large, etc. Learn how to protect yourself from viruses, get rid of junk e-mail, correct error messages, and much more.

COMPUTER, QUICKBOOKS 2009: Keep account of your small business or personal finances more effectively using Quickbooks 2009 (it's fine if you own an earlier version.) Learn how to process invoices, payments, enter and pay bills, reconcile bank accounts, and create detailed reports - making it easier and more effective to keep your books.

COMPUTER, VISTA, BASICS OF WINDOWS ON LAPTOP: Students may bring their own Windows Vista laptop computer to class or use one of ours. Learn how to work with the new Windows Vista program. Students will learn how to work with the desktop, manage files, control the display screen, install and open programs, and discover the sub-programs built into Windows Vista.

DANCE, RHYTHM BALLROOM, BEGINNING: A fun, introductory class on the basics of rhythm ballroom dancing, including: Rhumba, Cha Cha, Merengue, Mamba, and Salsa. Designed to get you up on the dance floor in a short period of time, or to re-establish the basics you forgot from long ago.

DANCE, BALLROOM, NON-BEGINNING: Develop the social aspects of ballroom dancing, as well as style, finesse, and confidence. Variations of Merengue, Rumba, Swing, Waltz, Foxtrot, and Tango will be reviewed and polished for your enjoyment in a social setting.

GUITAR, BEGINNING SKILLS: This fun course is for anyone interested in learning the basics of playing guitar. We'll learn guitar chords, how to spot patterns in songs, play together as a group, and basic guitar tab. By the end of the course, you'll have the tools to play a song you like, read basic guitar chords and tab, and know how to find other songs on your own to be able to play from the vast printed and electronic resources out there. We will use famous and fun songs in pop culture to bring out your inner musician. Bring your own guitar.

INTERIOR DECORATING:  Uncover your hidden talents and become your own interior decorator.  You can do it!  Obtain a quality look using easy-to-learn decorator tips that will help you create a room designed with color, texture and interest.  So start tearing out pictures of the room of your dreams  and we'll use them for inspiration to make your dreams come true.  Bring them and a photo(s) of your target space to the first class, and end up with a room that was designed by YOU!

RUSSIAN, BEGINNING 1: Designed for people who have never studied the Russian language. This course emphasizes the acquisition of basic vocabulary and sound systems and the development of basic speaking, reading, and writing skills while fostering an appreciation for Russian culture.

RUSSIAN, BEGINNING 2: Designed for students who have taken a beginning Russian course or have some experience with spoken and written Russian.

RUSSIAN, INTERMEDIATE-ADVANCED: Designed for Russian native speakers of all ages. The intent of this course is to assist native speakers in maintaining their proficiency in written and spoken Russian and cultural knowledge. In keeping with Russian educational philosophy, the course will utulize sections from classic literature to stimulate discussions. The course will include a review of Russian grammar, reading, and writing essays and will be conducted in Russian.

SECRETARIAL OFFICE SKILLS (Begins September 10): Students will learn the basics in secretarial office skills such as customer service, phone etiquette, filing, word processing, keyboarding, recordkeeping, and organization.

SIGN LANGUAGE, BEGINNING: This course offers a variety of verbs along with vocabulary for more fluent signing. It stresses the manual alphabet, numbers, and basic signs needed for communication. Students will learn signs, construct their own sentences, and sign them to class. American Sign Language (ASL) is used.

SIGN LANGUAGE, NON-BEGINNING: Go beyond the basics! Complete the textbook from the beginning course and begin to use sign language resources to sign poems, songs, or personal short projects. Practice not using your voice and begin to communicate with American Sign Language (ASL) with peers in the class.

TAI CHI: Practice "Meditation in Motion" with gentle, graceful, flowing movements that will reduce stress and improve your health by improving muscle strength and definition and by increasing flexibility, energy, stamina, agility and feelings of well being. Learn basic techniques that are applicable for all levels. Bring mat or large towel.

WOODWORKING, ADIRONDACK CHAIR MAKING: Students will purchase their own wood, safety glasses, and tape measure in order to make an Adirondack chair. Each night, the instructor will take students through different machines and processes to develop a chair. Safety will be emphasized. Whether you would like a straight back, palm trees, pelicans or fish, this class will help you improve your woodworking skills and have a finished product at the end of the course.

WRITING, CREATIVE: If you love to tell stories or share past experiences, this class is for you! Learn to weave engaging plots and select key events to grab the reader. We'll focus on fiction and memoir as we explore creative writing elements such as conflict/drama, characterization, viewpoint, pacing, and description through in-class writing exercises. Students of all levels will learn from each other through guided manuscript critique. A survey of the publishing field with tips on reaching editors is also provided.

WRITING, NON-FICTION: Interested in writing articles? Non-fiction is a great way to break into print! Learn to craft clear, concise copy - for magazines, ads, brochures, or websites. This class will cover different types of non-fiction writing and the process in developing an idea through a plan to a manuscript. Narrowing focus, finding sources, interviewing, pitching to editors/publishers, and targeting appropriate audience are discussed. Students at all levels will learn from each other as manuscripts are shared for comment during class time.

WRITING, SONGWRITING: The skills for songwriting and the time to learn. This course is designed to work on honing those skills to write melodies and create interesting chords to back those melodies. The songwriting class requires you to be at least proficient on an instrument, and part of the class will be spent performing our original compositions. You will leave this class with more "tools" in your musical toolbox, and the practical experience of walking through all the steps of the songwriting process. Bring your own instrument.

YOGA: All levels and ages welcome. Yoga combines gentle stretches with strengthening and breathing exercises. A yoga practice brings more strength, vitality, concentration, relaxation, and awareness. Many people find yoga props (blocks, straps, etc.) helpful to achieve more effective movement and better balance. Props available after the first class at minimal cost. bring a towel and a mat to the first class.
